Movie Rating: 8
Music Rating: 2
Starcast: Govinda, Raveena Tandon, Mohnish Behl, Kader Khan, Johny Lever.
Music: Anand Milind
Director: Harmesh "Nagina" Malhotra
What's it about?:Raja(Govinda) is a dhaba owner and is a big threat to
five-star hotel owner Singhania(Kader KHan). Raja's dhaba is just near
the entrance of the hotel and all the customers instead of going into
the hotel go into his dhaba. And so the film involves the tussle between
the dhaba owner Govinda and five-star owner Kader Khan.
Why was it a hit?:The film is watchable if you are a die-hard fan of
Govinda. He is just perfect for roles like this. Hats off to his
perfect timing for comedy. There are many hilarious moments in the
film which hold the audiences together. The film is ably supported by
Johny Lever(who is very funny), Raveena Tandon and Mohnish Behl.
Overall a clean film with no double meaning jokes like Aunty No. 1
or Banarasi Babu.
Movie Rating: 5
Music Rating: 7
StarCast: Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Sonali Bendre and Nafisa Ali.
Music:Anand Raj Anand (aka ARA)
Director: Tinu Anand
What's it about?: Even though the name indicates it is a patriotic film,
it is actually a
love story against the backdrop of defence. The film is inspired by
the
Hollywood film An Officer and a Gentleman.
Why was it an Average Hit?:What the film lacks is emotions. The scripting
is very poor by director
Virendra Raj Anand (alias Tinnu Anand). Anand Raaj Anad's music is
good
but Adesh Srivasta's song Sona Sona steals the show with Amitabh in
full
form. On the whole, the film belongs to Amitabh and it is only
Amitabh's
excellent performance which can make the film watchable.
Movie Rating: 8(cuz of Aamir Khan)
Music Rating: 8(cuz of Aamir Khan :) )
StarCast: Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Deepak Tijori.
Music:Jatin-Lalit
Director: Vikran Bhatt(Sushmita's Beau)
What's it about?: Ghulam, as claimed, cannot be called a masterpiece. The
film was
too hyped up to be something different. But Vikram Bhatt has been
inspired
by just not one film but many films like Parinda, Ghatak and
Kabzaa.
However it is Aamir Khan 's in-depth acting talents which make the
film
watchable. Siddhu (Aamir Khan) is a tapori. Circumstances make his
elder brother Jai
(Rajit Kapoor) the right-hand man of the underworld don Ronnie
(Sharad
Saxena). Siddhu's day goes in boxing, betting, fighting and
romancing with his
girlfriend Alisha (Rani Mukherjee), who is from a rich family.
A social worker Hari (Akshay Anand), who is Alisha's brother, is
murdered
by Ronnie's men. The murder is witnessed by Siddhu. This murder
changes
Siddhu's life. He chooses to follow his father's teachings (who was
a freedom
fighter) and decides to fight Ronnie much against his brother's
wishes. In his
mission, Siddhu is helped by a lawyer (Mita Vashisht). Jai is
killed by Ronnie
and as usual Siddhu finishes off Ronnie and his men.
Why was it a hit?:
It is some of the excellent performances which make the film
watchable.
Aamir once again proves that he is a perfectionist. Though his role
of a tapori
reminds one of that played in Rangeela, he makes it a point to see
that it
looks different and is also successful in doing so. He is just
fabulous. This time
he even made an attempt to sing a song Aati Kya Khandala.., which
has
become very popular. Rani Mukherjee looks attractive but does not
have
much scope to display her talents. The film also has two good
performers in
Rajit Kapoor and Mita Vashisht who impress in their short role. The
music is
melodious and the picturisation of Aati Kya Khandala is good.

Music Rating: 5
StarCast: Anil Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Rambha(a fat chick)
Music:Anu Malik
Director: David Dhawan
What's it about?:The film is a triangular story set in the backdrop of
lighter moods(as is to be expected from a David Dhawan film). Guy
married to a girl..can't have kids. Gets married again(dont ask how)
then tries to live happily ever after with 2 wives (ha like thats
possible..what do you say girls?). :))
Why was it a flop?: Whatever may be the situation or the plot, David
Dhawan likes to keep a
happy ending with no one to sacrifice. Anil Kapoor has not put his
heart in
playing this role. He cannot match Govinda's perfect timing of
comedy. Even
Anil's character is not very well defined. Raveena and Rambha do
their parts
well. Anu Malik's music is of David Dhawan's type (which cannot be
called
melodious).
Movie Rating:4
Music Rating: 2
StarCast: Govinda, Manisha Koiralla, Farha and some bad dudes.
Music:Dilip Sen - Sameer Sen
Director: Naresh Malhotra
What's it about?: It is a suspense thriller (more of a torture).
Industrialist Nanda's(Saeed Jaffrey) son Vijay (Rahul Roy) is murdered.
Now who is the murderer - Vijay's wife Madhu (Farha) or someone else.
Why was it a flop?: The screenplay is not very tight and the situations
are too unrealistic to be believed. The climax is too lengthy.

Movie Rating: 7
Music Rating: 9
StarCast: Salman Khan, Twinkle Khanna
Music:Jatin-Lalit
Director: Deepak Sareen
What's it about?: Salman is a playboy who falls in love with
Twinkle Khanna but can't get rid of his past(a kid).
Why was it a hit?: A different story with GREAT MUSIC made this
movie a hit. Salman's acting was also appreciated.
Movie Rating: 3
Music Rating: 7
StarCast: Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Sonali Bendre, Farida Jalal..yeah
another Shahrukh Khan.
Music:Anu Malik
Director: Mahesh "ugh" Bhatt
What's it about?: Shahrukh in a double role. One is a good one and
another one is a psycho..the rest you know.
Why was it a flop?: Gimme a break. You expect me(and million other people)
to like Shahrukh Khan when he is doing his dumb impression of Jim
Carrey?? Uggh I hated him in this movie. What's up with the overacting?
I am glad this movie flopped, if it had been a hit...I swear I would
have stopped watching hindi movies.

HIT |
Movie Rating: 5
Music Rating: 6
StarCast: Salman Khan, Kajol, Arbaaz Khan, Anjhala Zhaveri,
Dharmendra
Music:Jatin-Lalit, Kamaal Khan
Director: Sohail KHan
What's it about?: Guy likes a girl, bro hates the guy that the girl
likes. Guy tries to impress the bro by being buddy buddy with the girl's
uncle. In short..same ol' same ol'.
Why was it a hit?: Hmmm I have no clue. Story was stale, music wasn't
that great (yeah yeah only Oh oh Jaane Jaana). However Salman Khan(with
a bit of overacting) was alright. You never know what indian audience
like..right salman?
